Top ten promotional strategies adopted by actors

There was a phase when Bollywood film promotions were restricted to a launch party followed by its musical release event and lastly a premier hosted for the entire film fraternity. The film industry had a simple marketing recipe that is sign-in a celebrity, create a masala entertainer and here you go with a warm hugging success. If the film emerged out to be a blockbuster, it was followed up with a triumphant party or big get-to-gather bash.

Now, times have changed, today a lot of publicity and promotional stunts go hand-in-hand to make the film successful right from writing the storyboard to completing the screening process. And the entire thing is well arranged with a strong marketing mix. Releasing films on Friday is one of the chief reasons behind innovative promotional stunts of the Bollywood industry. We no longer get to see typical romantic or drama films running non-stop for many years in theatres and generating a huge cash flow in a relaxed manner.

It is the initial weekend that decides the fate of a film now. The precious words ‘Silver Jubilee’ and ‘Golden Jubilee’ have now been replaced with the Rs. 100 club or Rs. 200 club. The credit goes to none other than the multi-talented hero of the Bollywood industry, Aamir Khan who is best known as the ‘real marketing guru’. He better knows how to make a film successful. Till now we have not seen any other actor, director or producer being so involved in the film’s promotion. His perfection is so much that every time he comes up with a new idea to promote his film. The biggest marketing examples can be seen during the promotion Ghajini, Taare Zameen Par, 3 idiots, Talash and the recently released movie Dhoom 3.

We can now say that film industry is making the genuine efforts in to publicize their respective films.  Today, we see publicity efforts commencing five to six months before the release of the film to generate curiosity among the audiences.

Post Aamir’s promotional strategies, many actors have started adopting the trend of promoting the film uniquely. The list is as follows:

  1. In order to promote Ken Ghosh’s ‘Chance Pe Dance’, the lead pair Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza spent a night together inside a car.

  1. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan is no untouched from this unique trend. He adopted a different measure to publicize his film ‘Rann’. The actor was seen reading the news on a TV channel. Not only this, the director of movies Mr. Ram Gopal Verma even distributed a ten-page daily newspaper ‘Rann Times’ till the final release of the film.

  1. Likewise, Salman also jumped in the battle race of promoting the projects. During his pet-project ‘Veer’, actor Salman Khan had declared a quest for unrecognized heroes who had performed the acts of bravery in their real lives. The actor did all this to promote his film. To everyone’s surprise the film did really well at the box-office and ended up grossing huge collections.

  2. We must say this was the most ridiculous publicity stunt we have ever witnessed when Shahrukh Khan was detained by the airport authorities in Newark. The entire episode took place just a few days before the release of My Name Is Khan. An appropriate PR gimmick? Don’t you think so?
  3. Imran filed a PIL against the enactment of the drinking age being raised to 25 years in Mumbai. The objective behind the entire stunt was to promote Delhi Belly and thankfully the film received accolades from the people.

  1. There was news of accidental marriage between John Abraham and Genelia D'souza while shooting the fake marriage scene in the movie ‘Force’. Later, it turned out to be a promotional stunt. Good way to divert the attention of people!
  2. UTV arranged a trip to Chambal for some selected fans to promote the Irrfan Khan starrer Pan Singh Tomar. The film was well received by the audience and critics not only because of good story line and acting but because of this unique promotional strategy too.
  3. Remember that fake baby bump of Vidya Balan for Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani? The actress adopted the trick to attract the attention of the audience. Really, such a good idea!
  4. And who can forget that pink buffalo in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola? Earlier we thought that film was a political satire but later it emerged out something else. The film didn’t work and flopped after the release.
  5. Romantic link ups is another PR strategy to promote a film. And this trick was adopted by the lead pair of 3G, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan just before the release of their film. However, their trick didn’t work and the film bombed at the box-office .

There was a time when tattoos having a retro appearance were in vogue. But now, if you closely look at the change and development in tattoo art, you will get to see that there is a massive growth in 3D tattoos. So, if you are also planning to get yourself inked in the near future, we will suggest you to go for 3D one as they are quite impressive and look realistic.   Meanwhile, we will introduce you to the list of some celebrities who have recently popularized the art of getting inked:

Cheryl Cole got her tenth tattoo done recently. To everyone’s surprise, is just beyond the imagination. It is not precisely small. In fact, it is her biggest tattoo till now and has received mixed reviews from the people. Her recent picture is enough to reveal the story of her tattoo love. She got two big roses inked on her bum. According to the recent reports, this infamous Instagram not only out her through 55 hours of pain but also costs her a lot, approximately £14,000 we hear. On the one hand she sees tattoos as an art while other people claim she is hooked into getting them. The rose tattoo is really very large and was done at Black Anchor Collective tattoo studio in California.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles displayed his enormous affection towards tattoos. He is so obsessed with the idea of getting inked that his body has no more space for another tattoo. By adding another two Instagram, Harry has once again stretched his massive collection of tattoo. The One Direction star has roughly 31 tattoos on his body. The first new design is on his elbow - a marginally messy design which reads 'Silver Spoon' and the second new tattoo is a big image of the Holy Bible, embossed onto his left forearm. His addiction towards tattoo is not too old in fact, it has only started recently.

Frankie Sandford

The Saturdays’ singer, Frankie Sandford is another admirer of tattoos. Frankie has a new design on her hand. This time the singer opted for a heart Instagram that reads Time to talk. Frankie was seen sporting the tattoo to show her support for mental health program. The big image shows a black heart with angel wings and the words 'Time to Talk'.

David Beckham
David Beckham has always been an ardent fan of tattoos and the whole world is captivated every time he gets one. He generally opts for the meaningful tattoos based on his family, friends and children. He has inked his body with different tattoos for each of his children and his beloved spouse Victoria Beckham. You can find a huge range of tattoos all over his body. He has ‘Brooklyn’ printed on his lower back and a guardian angel just beneath it. On his forearm, you can see his love for wife Victoria. Victoria’s name is written in Hindi language which looks very fascinating as well as a symbol of romance in his life. And now, once again he has proved his love towards Victoria by sporting another tattoo on her name. We have spotted the player recently at Lakme Fashion Week Global Fund and British Council party with a large new inking of the word Victoria at the top of his hand. What a love or should we call it an obsession?

Michael C Hall

The Dexter star Michael C Hall got his new tattoo done at a shop in Hollywood for the sake of carrying forward the latest trend of sporting tattoos. Even his girlfriend Morgan McGregor has so many tattoos on her body. May be, he is just following her footprints. His recent tattoo on right foot looks like some kind of leaf. Hall is quite impressed with the new artwork.

Question and Answer Session

What is the secret behind your enviable figure and flawless skin?
I must admit that I am blessed with great genes. That is the reason why I have never tried tortured my body with those wild fad diets. I believe, eating right and living healthy is a key to attain perfect figure. Moreover, I love exercising in the gym and practice yoga regularly to streamline my body. Plus, a lot of dance practise keeps me in shape. I never worked out so hard before I had my baby. I only danced to remain in curvaceous figure. For me dance is a great way to reduce weight. On the other hand to keep my skin gorgeous, I am very specific about my beauty routine. I completely trust on mild and regular cleansing, but I keep away from facials. I consistently perform my three-step process of cleansing, toning and moisturising. I also go under intraceutical treatments-they really work! They supply oxygen to your skin and smoothens fine lines.
What defines your personal style?
I never leave home without my favourite killer pair of heels. I have approximately 200 pairs of shoes and I love each one of them. My favourite brands of shoes are Christian Louboutin and Roger Vivier. For outfits, I prefer Valentino, Chanel, Wendell Rodricks, and Mandira Wirk. I know my shape well so I prefer my outfits accordingly.
What is more important for you- Being stylish or being fashionable?
Being stylish, absolutely! Swearing on trends is great but for me, what I pick for myself is more important because not everything may suit me and my body type. So, dressing according to your style and comfort is always a clever option. It will also make you fashionable as well.
How did the idea of joining theclosetlabel.com come to your mind?
I have always dreamt of having my own clothing label. When The Label Corp came to me with the proposal of theclosetlabel.com, an online store that dedicated to leisure and every day wear, I immediately grabbed the opportunity! It is delightful to be able to help women across the country dress naturally stylish for every day occasion.
What are the 5 essentials that one should have in her closet?
A little black dress, a pair of killer heels, a stylish neckpiece, a pair of blue denims (perfectly fitted) and a classic white shirt.
Apart from you, who do you think can represent your label best?
I think both Karisma & Kareena are exceptionally stylish and of course, my sister Amrita!
How did you manage to maintain a balance between your house, kids and work?
Well, I do films whenever I get time but I am not regular to it. For me, my kids come first. They are my priority and yes as of now I am busy in looking some production work but I’ll manage it somehow. But it is quite difficult when you start handling so many things at the same time.
